We’re very sorry to hear about your situation. Many community organizations throughout Quebec offer food assistance. Consult a map of the organizations affiliated with our network. Find the one closest to you or best-suited to your needs.

You can also call 2-1-1, which is a free, confidential helpline, or consult the directory on its website (in French only): Greater Montréal or Other Regions.

Food assistance takes many forms. There are many types of services: emergency assistance, food counters, meals-on-wheels, collective kitchens, social grocery stores, snacks for children, and so on.

Please note that Moisson Rive-Sud does not offer direct assistance to the population.

Each community organization offers different services with different criteria. We therefore recommend you consult the organization’s website or call ahead for specific information before travelling.

Often, a respectful and non-judgemental assessment of the applicant’s file is required.

Please note that many organizations set a limit on the frequency with which certain food assistance services are offered to the same person (for example, once a month). Some services also charge a nominal fee of a few dollars.

Our organization (Moisson Rive-Sud) accepts dry food donations at its warehouse. Food donations enable Moisson Rive-Sud to supply the network of accredited organizations every day, meeting the needs of vulnerable populations.

Agri-food companies interested in making a large-scale donation that will have an impact across the Montérégie region should visit the page or simply write to operations@moissonrivesud.org. We can store, handle and distribute several hundred pallets a week.

Needs vary from region to region, but logistical costs are a major concern for all food banks in the network. With a $1 donation, we can provide the equivalent of $25 worth of food. Please, consider making a financial donation.

In terms of foodstuffs, the following products are high in demand:

• Pasta
• Rice
• Canned meat and fish
• Powdered and canned soups and stews
• Canned fruit and vegetables
• Flour
• Cereals
• Nut butter
• Canned and powdered milk
• Fruit juices
• Pasta sauces
• Beans and vegetables
• Formula milk and baby food
• Hygiene products from 0 to 100 years
• Household cleaning products

Cash donations are essential to our members’ day-to-day operations as well as offsetting the costs of the infrastructure (trucks, freezers, etc.) needed to recover foodstuffs. It’s important to understand that Moisson Rive-Sud rarely buys foodstuffs, but rather advocates a circular economic model in which foodstuffs that would otherwise have been wasted (surpluses from agri-food companies and supermarkets) are diverted to our member organizations.

For every $1 donated, Moisson Rive-Sud is able to donate $25 worth of food. Thanks to the exceptional work of the Moisson Rive-Sud team and its volunteers, operational costs are optimized to deliver a major impact in our region.

Volunteers are essential to the day-to-day operations of food assistance organizations. Many crucial tasks are performed by hard-working volunteers, including warehouse sorting, trucking, corporate volunteer activities, to name just a few.

Rest assured — Moisson Rive-Sud is a non-profit organization that has been in existence since 1992. It is recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as a registered charity. It is governed by a Board of Directors made up of highly experienced administrators.

MRS is a member of the Food Banks of Quebec and Food Banks Canada.

If you buy foodstuffs from one of the Moissons that are members of the Food Banks of Quebec network, you are already an affiliated member. Take this opportunity to check that your organization is on our map.

If it isn’t, you’ll need to contact the Moisson in your area to become accredited and start receiving foodstuffs through them.

One-time, monthly or bimonthly financial donations, gifts in Will, gifts of securities, gifts of life insurance policies, gifts of RRSPs or RRIFs, or through the creation of endowment funds.

Food donations: Moisson Rive-Sud accepts food donations throughout the year. Our beneficiaries come from all walks of life, so our needs are varied. Call us to schedule your donation, or drop it off directly between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Donate goods and services: Expand your philanthropic outreach and join our growing number of corporate partners in goods and services. For example, if you’re in the optometry business, you could help Moisson Rive-Sud by donating a fixed amount for each frame sold.

Volunteering: Would you like to help improve the lives of the Montérégie’s most vulnerable? Volunteering is a great way to get involved. Whether you’re a corporate volunteer, an individual, a family member, a friend, a student, an intern, for social solidarity, for a one-off day or a more regular commitment, your help is always appreciated.
